Pathankot, April 01, 2024 :- In a significant development in the ongoing crackdown against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has successfully apprehended Patwari Yashpal, stationed at revenue halqua village Kot in Pathankot district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000.

An official spokesperson of the state VB disclosed that the accused, a resident of village Malpur in Pathankot, was caught based on a complaint lodged by Sanjiv Sharma, a resident of village Tehari Tika Basa, tehsil Dhar Kalan. Sharma alleged that Yashpal demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for expediting the transfer of land ownership in his name in revenue records and had already pocketed Rs 400 as an initial installment.

Following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, a VB team swiftly orchestrated a trap, leading to the apprehension of the accused Patwari while he was accepting Rs 2,000 as the second installment of the bribe. The operation was conducted in the presence of two official witnesses to ensure transparency and integrity.

The spokesperson further revealed that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Amritsar range. The accused is slated to be presented before the competent court tomorrow, with the investigation into the matter ongoing.

The successful operation by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and combating corruption at all levels. Such actions send a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated, and those involved will be brought to justice.
